What is dropcatching?

Quick Dropcatch Overview​

When a domain name expires and is released from the registrar there can be many people who want to aquire that domain. Dropcatch services will check several times a second and try and register that domain before anyone else.

Why would someone dropcatch a domain​

If a domain with current search engine rankings or links expires then the acquirer can use something like archive.org to get the old content of the site and bring it partially back (filled with ads and naughty sold links).

Or they could be a competitor who wants the brand associated with the domain.

Dropcatching is very legal however WHAT you dropcatch could not be. Just because a domain is available to register doesn't mean it doesn't have a trademark issued and by registering and trying to use it, you open yourself up to a massive legal nightmare.
